WHO WE ARE: The Center for New York City Affairs at The New School is an applied policy research institute that drives innovation in social policy. We seek to improve the effectiveness of government and other organizations in their work with low-income urban communities in New York City. The Center works where people's lives intersect with government and community organizations to illuminate the impact of public policy on the lives of ordinary people. We are committed to constant collaboration with government and non-profit organizations, residents, advocates, researchers and journalists. - Our study of Schools Chancellor Joel Klein's radical reorganization was the first to analyze the impact of his school accountability system on children and families.
- Our public forums on social welfare, education, economics and other urban issues engage thousands of participants each year.
- Our award-winning collaboration with journalists from more than two dozen immigrant communities has brought unique perspectives on pressing local and national issues to public radio and online.
